HEALTH COACHING
Health coaching gives people the knowledge, skills and confidence to become more active in their care to maximize personal well-being and overall health.
A Health Coach is a mentor and guide who helps to facilitate each client’s journey towards becoming the individual’s healthiest and happiest self.
To do so, the Health Coach assists the client to get clear on his or her vision of wellness, set realistic goals along the way, and serve as an honest and encouraging accountability partner.
Each Health Coach creates a safe, non-judgmental space for the client to discuss any facet of wellness for which he or she may want some guidance, including but not limited to nutrition, fitness, sleep, stress management, social well-being, and spiritual fulfilment.
Whether a client wants to lose weight, improve his or her sleep quality, eat healthier, or simply feel less stressed, a Health Coach is a reliable and welcoming source of guidance.
Health Coaches don’t prescribe or diagnose; rather, they assist the client to rely on internal strengths and external resources to determine the best steps to take. The exception to this is where a coach holds multiple, active credentials and insurance.
Health Coaches provide meaningful advice and education when it feels important or necessary, but in general, Health Coaches believe in their heart of hearts that clients are the experts on themselves and only need a little bit of help to uncover the answers.
Holding Multiple Credentials
While Health and Wellness Coaches do not, per se assess symptoms, diagnose conditions, interpret lab results, give specific dietary advice, remove food groups, prescribe treatments or therapeutic interventions (including nutritional) or make claims to prevent or cure any condition - if they also hold active, nationally recognized professional credentials and insurance (for example as a nutritionist, nutritional therapist, dietician, nurse, doctor, pharmacist, psychologist, psychotherapist, physiotherapist, mental health specialist, osteopath, chiropractor) they may provide expert guidance related to that topic, but must act within the Scope of Practice of that or those profession(s). ~ UK & International Health Coaches Association
