LIFESTYLE MEDICINE & FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE
There are some crossovers when it comes to Lifestyle Medicine and Functional Medicine. Lifestyle medicine isn’t complementary or alternative. It is an evidence-based, established and respected medical discipline, which focuses on supported behaviour change to help people live lives free from chronic disease. The focus of both Functional and Lifestyle medicine is on patient-centered care, promoting health as a positive vitality, beyond just the absence of disease. Lifestyle Medicine supports behaviour change through person-centred techniques. Functional Medicine looks to consider the complex web of interactions in the client’s history, physiology, and lifestyle that can lead to illness and reversal of chronic health conditions. An integrative, science-based healthcare approach empowers patient/client and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. The unique genetic makeup of each client is considered, along with both internal (mind, body and spirit) and external (physical and social environment) factors that affect total functioning. Mandie recognises the uniqueness of her clients and carefully guides them through their journey to reach optimal health, educating them with the knowledge and motivation they need to maintain their optimum. Mandie's scope of practice integrates both core principles of Functional & Lifestyle Medicine, which allows her to practice effectively by treating and addressing nutritional deficiencies with a Functional approach, whilst using evidence based clinical care which supports behaviour change. This practice allows for, creating a focus on prevention through behaviour change, lifestyle, nutrition, diet, and movement; use of the latest laboratory testing and prescribed combinations of nutritional supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, or stress-management techniques. |
